A few months back I decided to have some fun with building a Necron Army. Having a boyfriend that works for Relic Entertainment means that sometimes I get awesome nerdy gifts, and this was no exception! These have been sitting on the shelf for a while… and it wasn’t until we popped into our favourite local hobby shop (Strategies), and discovered they were having their annual Immortal Painting Contest, that we decided we’d better get moving with painting our armies.
Yes, I’m aware this is probably one of the nerdiest things I could be doing, besides staying up late coding HTML and CSS.
I’ll admit, I’ve always had an unnatural fascination with skeletons (all I wanted for Christmas when I was a child was acrylic paint, Monster Head, and Creepy Crawlies), so the Necrons were the perfect introduction into the Warhammer Universe. They’re pretty cute for a bunch of angry dead guys. I’ve never actually played the game, but painting the figurines was a ton of fun.
And hey, I ended up winning “Best New Entry!”
Let me just say, most of the entries were shockingly awesome. I’m pretty amazed that there are so many people out there with so much time on their hands!
